Trivia Question❓In what year was Manvel, Texas officially incorporated as a city? Answer at the bottom of the newsletter |

The mayor of Manvel, Texas, is calling for the removal of Flock camera systems from his city, saying he "can no longer support" the license plate reader network after a closer look at the company behind it. Mayor Dan Davis, who originally voted for the Flock agreement in 2024, now cites serious concerns about data privacy, cybersecurity vulnerabilities, and the broader data ecosystem Flock is building — including a feature called Nova that could allow outside organizations to leverage Manvel's data. Manvel is far from alone. More than 50 agencies nationwide have canceled or suspended Flock contracts this year, and nearly 50 officers have been charged or accused of misusing the cameras — many to track romantic partners or family members. |

Just off Highway 288 near Manvel, Armadillo Ranch & Event Center offers something increasingly rare along one of the Houston area's fastest-growing corridors: 20 acres of private Texas countryside — without a long drive to reach it.
Located at 7710 Iowa Colony Boulevard in Rosharon, the property features a renovated 1960s ranch home with five bedrooms, six bathrooms, and overnight accommodations for up to 10 guests.
A dedicated event space handles up to 80 guests, while rental tents can expand gatherings across the open acreage.
Standout features include a deck built around a mature oak tree, a permanent outdoor dance floor, a balcony that doubles as a DJ booth, a children's play area, and room for ATV riding.
Flexible rental options let guests book the ranch house, event space, or both — making it ideal for weddings, quinceañeras, reunions, and retreats.
The ranch house is also available as an Airbnb listing for overnight stays, making Armadillo Ranch one of the 288 corridor's most surprising hidden gems. Read More... |
Studio G Dance in Manvel is raising funds for its Darby's Dancers Performance Company, a program making the performing arts accessible to children and young adults with physical and intellectual disabilities.
The program is part of a national nonprofit founded in memory of Darby Emma Jones, a young girl with Down syndrome who found joy in dance during her battle with leukemia.
Darby passed away in 2013, but her legacy lives on through studios like Studio G, where families fundraise to help cover costs for participating dancers with special needs.
This year's campaign features an online Double Good Pop-Up Store selling gourmet popcorn — 50% of every purchase goes directly to the fundraiser, and anyone anywhere can participate.
Beyond dance steps, the program builds confidence, friendships, and inclusion right here in Manvel — no trip to Houston required. Read More... |
