Trivia Question❓Manvel, Texas sits within which Gulf Coast county, whose name honors a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence? Answer at the bottom of the newsletter |
Early voting for the Nov. 3 midterm election runs Oct. 19–30. This guide combines local voting locations and hours with race information checked against the supplied Brazoria County Precinct 53 sample ballot.
Manvel’s site is the Keith Traylor Criminal Justice Center. Pearland has Tom Reid Library, West Pearland Community Center and West Pearland Library. Iowa Colony and Brazoria County’s Rosharon area have nearby alternatives in the guide; compare routes from your address.
Use a site in your county of registration. Fort Bend County’s Crawford High School in Rosharon opens for early voting Oct. 24, not Oct. 19. Its dates and hours differ from Brazoria County’s schedule.
The sample lists statewide races including U.S. Senate, governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, comptroller, land commissioner, agriculture commissioner and Railroad Commissioner, plus judicial contests. Candidate names and party labels are provided without endorsements.
For Precinct 53, district contests are U.S. House 14, Texas Senate 11, Texas House 25 and State Board of Education 7. County offices, Precinct 4 commissioner and justice-of-the-peace races, and three nonpartisan Brazoria Central Appraisal District director positions also appear.
Review both ballot pages. Precinct 53’s sample is not a universal ballot for all four communities; other addresses can have different district contests. Confirm your registration, sample ballot, voting hours and accepted identification before leaving home. Read More... |
Pearland City Council’s Oct. 12 meeting produced a tattoo-studio approval, a five-year Turkey Trot permit and several purchasing authorizations. Four fire purchasing items and a multifamily rezoning proposal did not move forward that night.
Council approved Luxury Tattoos at 1331 E. Broadway Street, Suite L, with a condition limiting the business to tattoo services. The amendment and amended Conditional Use Permit each passed 5–0. Body piercing is excluded.
The proposed multifamily rezoning north of Magnolia Parkway and west of Manvel Road was pulled from the agenda.
Staff also held four contracts covering medical supplies, uniforms and firefighter equipment to resolve bid-process questions. The remaining consent items passed 5–0, including Turkey Trot permits for Thanksgiving Day events from 2026 through 2030.
Approved purchases included $102,913 for Zoll medical equipment and service plans and an estimated $150,000 annually for a Pearland Lumber Company supplies contract.
After executive session, council authorized PEDC loan agreements for projects 2608 and 2609 by a 5–0 vote. Business identities and loan amounts were not stated in the recorded motion. The meeting adjourned at 11:07 p.m. Approved contracts and permit decisions are reported separately from the purchasing items and zoning request held for later consideration. Read More... |

The Exchange Club of Pearland gives residents several ways to serve their community, with projects focused on youth, Americanism, community service and child abuse prevention.
Its Flags of Freedom program maintains the American flags displayed along Broadway for patriotic holidays. The club owns the flags, and the city places them. Contributions help the club maintain a display that needs replacement flags as materials become weathered.
The club’s child abuse prevention page highlights an April campaign encouraging people to wear blue on Mondays. It also points visitors toward awareness materials through the Brazoria County Alliance for Children and offers a way to support prevention projects.
Community gatherings include the annual One Nation Under God luncheon, with a meal, speaker and prayer. Its page also offers an option to sponsor seats for attendees or veterans who may be unable to pay.
The Car & Craft Show page describes craft booths, festival activities and a car show, along with a collection of new baby items for local pantries. Readers should confirm event dates and current needs directly with the club.
Interested in getting involved? The club lists dinner meetings on the second and fourth Wednesdays at 6 p.m. at Casa Ole, 3100 Broadway in Pearland. Visit its contact page to ask about attending or supporting a project. Read More... |
